Thinking outside of the lunchbox: Psychologist's role in non-classroom settings.
Cafeterias, schoolyards, hallways and other non-classroom settings are typically the bedrock of disruptive behaviors in schools. The role of the
school psychologist typically is to assist in planning for an individual student in these settings, expending extensive time and recourses for
just one student. A proposed alternative is to impact more students with fewer resources using the school psychologist's expertise. This
interactive workshop will provide the nuts and bolts for developing a systems-level intervention for these notorious school "hot spots".
Participants will leave with the knowledge and skills to develop: (a) efficient and effective non-classroom routines, (b) setting specific rules and procedures for teaching, (c) a variety of acknowledgement systems,
including group contingencies, and (d) training on active supervision and follow-up support for non-classroom staff.

Building a coaching model of district-level school-wide positive behavior support.
School-wide positive behavior support (SW-PBS) is associated with decreases in student disruptive behavior, improvements in school climate,
and increases of student academic performance. While many individual schools have adopted this proactive approach to discipline, the current
trend is to take SW-PBS to scale at the district and/or state level. One efficient and effective method for going to scale at the district
level is to develop an internal coaching model. This presentation details a process for (a) developing district-level commitment and management,
as well as (b) developing a comprehensive and sustainable internal coaching model for SW-PBS. Participants will learn specific strategies, and
be provided with concrete tools for developing an internal coaching model, thus moving a district to sustainable implementation of SW-PBS.

Impacting school climate with a universal system of SW-PBS: It's not just about referrals anymore!
School climate, including perception of safety, support for staff, staff respect for students, and skill instruction is a valued
outcome for systems of school-wide positive behavior support (SW-PBS). The purpose of this poster is to provide participants with
an overview of school climate from a behavioral and social learning perspective, and provide examples of climate outcome data
following the implementation of a universal system of SW-PBS. First, this poster will provide the audience with brief, bulleted
points reviewing the current definitions of school climate and the variety of available measurement methods. Second, graphed
implementation data (e.g., School Wide Evaluation Tool: SET results) will be included to document the level of the universal
systems of SW-PBS in place for the multiple urban schools (K-4 / K-8) included in this poster. The final, and primary focus
of the poster, will be to share pictorially specific school climate outcome data from multiple urban school sites. Data will
illustrate the impact of a universal system of SW-PBS on (a) teacher perceptions of school climate based on a pencil-paper
climate survey, (b) student perceptions of school climate secured through student interviews, and (c) student-to-student
social interactions secured through direct observations of student behavior. Participants will be provided with a one-page
handout highlighting strategies and tools for measuring school climate as an outcome of their SW-PBS efforts.
